Overview
Mei Lin joined the firm in 1989 as an associate and became a partner in 1996. She is the Head of the Loans & Debt Restructuring Department as well as the Banking & Finance Department.
She has over 34 years of experience in the areas of banking, debt restructuring, corporate, real estate and debt capital market work. Her experience in banking covers a broad range of banking transactions including bilateral and syndicated loans, club deals, security sharing arrangements, infrastructure and project financing, ship financing, off-shore and cross border loan transactions as well as sukuk and other debt instruments. She has a good working knowledge of commercial banking, retail banking, corporate banking and trade financing. She also regularly advises and acts for banks, bondholders, trustees, agent banks and borrowers in complex debt restructuring and formal schemes of arrangement. She is also well versed in Islamic financing.
She has extensive experience in acting for buyers and sellers of non-performing loans and has been involved in all aspects of the transaction from both the buyer’s and the seller’s perspective including the due diligence and bidding process, advising and structuring the special purpose vehicle to acquire the NPLs, drafting and reviewing the sale and purchase agreement, regulatory compliance, vesting and transfer of the NPLs and post-acquisition work.
She regularly advises and acts in sale and purchase transactions involving shares of companies, office and commercial buildings, data centre, development land, industrial buildings and residential properties, joint venture development projects, receivership and liquidator sales and sales by public auctions and open tenders.

The Sukuk Murabahah issuance by Urusharta Jamaah Sdn Bhd of up to RM27.56 billion deal led by Khong Mei Lin won 2019 IFN Deals of the Year for the categories “Best Deal by Sector: Restructuring” and “Best Deal by Country: Malaysia”. The same deal has been shortlisted for the “IFN Overall Deal of the Year 2019” to be announced in Dubai.
