Where Purpose Meets Action: Supporting Greater Action

At Shook Lin & Bok, we believe that meaningful impact often begins with small acts of kindness carried out together.

Last year, as part of our CSR efforts, we supported Greater Action by sponsoring the registration of its service mark in Malaysia. We were delighted that the mark was successfully registered, and it was especially meaningful that our partners, Nina Lai and Joseph Yu Shi Yang, could personally present the original Certificate of Registration during our visit to Greater Action’s centre in Bandar Baru Ampang.

Our collaboration did not stop there. Over the past few weeks, lawyers and staff across the firm came together to contribute pre-loved clothing for Greater Action’s sustainable fashion programme. These donated items will be repaired, repurposed, and upcycled by refugee women, creating opportunities for skills development, income generation, and greater independence, while also promoting more responsible and sustainable consumption.

During our visit, we had the opportunity to learn more about the inspiring work being carried out at the centre. Greater Action provides Afghan refugee women with practical training in areas such as tailoring, culinary arts, and artistic and creative work, helping them build confidence, dignity, and sustainable livelihoods within a supportive community.

A special thank you to the founder, Julie Das, a French lady deeply rooted in Malaysia, for her inspiring leadership, her passion for this cause, and her unwavering commitment to supporting refugee communities. We truly appreciated the opportunity to visit the centre, gain a deeper understanding of the work being done, and witness first-hand the positive difference Greater Action is making in the lives of so many women and families.

We are grateful to have played a small part in supporting this meaningful initiative, and we are equally grateful to everyone in the firm who contributed so generously to the clothing drive. This was a wonderful reminder that when a community comes together, even simple contributions can go a long way.
