Steven joined the firm in 1992 as an associate. He became a partner in 2000. His main areas of practice are Employment law, Administrative law and General Litigation. He is currently the Head of the Family, Probate & Trusts Department, Tax & Revenue Department and the Competition & Anti-Trust Law Department.

He handles a variety of complex employment law disputes concerning mergers, reorganization, retrenchment and serious misconducts involving fraud and breach of trust. Steven represents a number of multi national and government linked companies in Malaysia, both in an advisory capacity as well as lead counsel in court. He also handles a wide variety of judicial review applications for and against regulatory authorities. Steven has also appeared as counsel for the “Orang Asli” in aboriginal rights cases in Peninsular Malaysia. He has appeared at all levels of the courts in Malaysia and has argued a number of important Employment law, Administrative law and Native Rights points.

Steven also speaks regularly on Employment law, Administrative law and Constitutional law issues. He has authored/co-authored articles on contemporary public law issues.

Steven Thiruneelakandan was listed under the Legal 500 Asia Pacific 2014 as a recommended lawyer in the area of Dispute Resolution.
