Regional Arbitration Conference and IPBA-THAC Arbitration Day on 5 & 6 November 2018 at Eastin Grand Hotel, Bangkok, Thailand
Mr. Lam Ko Luen, Senior Partner of Shook Lin & Bok was invited by the Inter-Pacific Bar Association to be a panelist at the Regional Arbitration Conference which was held in conjunction with the IPBA Arbitration Day in Bangkok, Thailand. Mr. Lam spoke at the session on “Recent Legislative and Case Law Developments in Arbitration in Asia”. The other panelist were Dr. Fuyong Chen from The People’s Republic of China, Mr. Kim Doo-Sik from South Korea, and Ms. Koh Swee Yen from Singapore. The session was moderated by Mr. Robert Rhoda from Hong Kong and Dr. Lars Markert from Japan. Mr. Lam spoke on the Malaysian arbitral landscape and the developments in the statutory as well as case laws, including the enactment of the Arbitration (Amendment) (No. 2) Act 2018 which came into effect on 8 May 2018 and the recent cases of Jacob and Toralf Consulting Sdn Bhd v Siemens Industry Software GmbH & Co KG [2018], Protasco v. Tey Por Yee [2018] and La Kaffa International v. Loob Holding [2018]. The conference drew a crowd from the arbitral industry of various jurisdictions all over the world.
