Construction Law Conference 2018 on 25 September 2018 at Concorde Hotel, Kuala Lumpur by Legal Plus

Mr. Lam Ko Luen, Senior Partner of Shook Lin & Bok was invited to be a panelist at the Construction Law Conference on “The Construction Arbitration Landscape in Malaysia“. The other panelist were Datuk Professor Dr. Sundra Rajoo, Mr. Rajendra Navaratnam and Mr. Chang Wei Mun. The session was moderated by Dato’ Mary Lim JCA. Some of the major issues discussed at the session include the recent Federal Court decision in the case of Far East Holdings Bhd and Another v Majlis Ugama Islam dan Adat Resam Melayu Pahang and 2 Other Appeals which resulted in the enactment of the Arbitration (Amendment) Act 2018 that repeals Section 42 of the Arbitration Act 2005. Our Mr. Lam was incidentally involved in the Far East case and spoke on the same and the ensuing repeal of Section 42 as well as other major amendments to the Arbitration Act introduced by the Arbitration (Amendment) (No. 2) Act 2018. The conference drew a crowd from different disciplines including legal practitioners, arbitrators, adjudicators, contractors, architects, quantity surveyors, project managers, developers, property owners, government departments, public bodies, local authorities, universities, multi-national corporations, trade associations, architects, engineers and building surveyors.
